We all know it. We go into Google Analytics 4, get euphoric about the number of visits, and imagine how the millions of transactions begin to flow. Then you wake up and start to realize that you’re the one going to the site every 30 seconds. Get rid of the illusion and exclude internal traffic from GA4. I invite you to a tutorial and video for the bored!
Why exclude internal traffic at all?
If you use a private computer, go to an office and your client has multiple employees working on the site, there’s a good chance you’re analyzing the wrong data in your Google Analytics. Why? Every visit to the site leaves behind a cookie, from which data is collected and processed for GA4.
How to exclude intrenal traffic in GA4?
To get started you must have editor privileges to exclude traffic from GA4. Keep in mind that filter exclusion is irrevocable, so always do it with great care.
- In Google Analytics, click Admin. Check the property in GA4.
- In the Property column, click Data Streams -> web data -> Configure tag settings.
- Then Show all -> Define internal traffic -> Create.
- Enter a name for the rule, eg. “Exclude IP”.
- Enter a value for the traffic_type parameter.
- In IP address > Match type, select an operator.
- In IP address > Value, enter an address or range of addresses that identify traffic from the location.
Congratulations! Your move will now be clean and much closer to the truth. By the way, you have discovered new tabs in GA4, which are developing extremely fast. Watch regularly for changes in your traffic and check after a few weeks to see if your IP is included in the referrals. Have a successful analysis!
